Work in progress

I want to show you this work in progress. Thank you for the great comments about this drawing.
Abby wanted to be on the picture too so there she is with her favorite stuffed dog.
I think I am going to paint the background Terra cotta or rusty red.

I have problems with red if I don't mix it with another color. It doesn't cover very good (the same with brown) I was trying to find a brand that covers but I didn't have any luck yet.
A close up. I didn't finish painting the dress yet. The face is almost done. It needs a crown (golden)
I was inspired by Renaissance's artist Parmigianino "Madonna with the Long Neck"
My Madonna is different. Her eyes are open and baby Jesus is not in the picture. Also the style is different.
I hope you like it.

Hi Adri,
I like the long neck and the long hands. Very pretty. The rusty red is going to look great.

Hi Adri,
It's coming along nicely. I'm sure it will be beautiful when you finish it. About the problem with red. I know that when they paint a room red they use a gray primer first. You might give that a try on a surface other than the painting first to see if a gray underpainting will help the red cover better. I tried to paint my gate red once and had the same problem. I just looked hot pink until about the fourth coat.

I love that, I am a fan of Modigliani and your painting appelas to me in that way, large eyes, long neck, very stylized. Not in a derivative way, yours is definitely original. (and has pupils!) Nice

Hi Adri,

She is beautiful! I can wait to see her finished. The problem with reds, Jo Sonja acrylic gouache (brand) has a line of acrylics that covers REALLY good, on the down side is that they are opaque, velvet texture (very opaque) what I do is to paint with the sonja fist to cover the white on canvas and then you can use the regular acrylics, to cover the first coat I like liquitex if you use primer for walls is going to leave a very plasticky feel, and is not really made for canvas.

Oops! I need to watch how I word things better. I did mean use a gray acrylic underpainting and then the red over it. I would only use wall paint on a wall. Adri, your red turned out nice anyway.
